Rezine — Publishing Lab

Rezine

Project by Luca Ucciero

Rezine is a tiny fanzine of 10 issues. The covered topics are the self-sustaining, the “Do It Yourself” and the utopian ideas of visionary minds. The focus is on the republishing of material that is not known, from publications that are mostly out of production. The zine is printed on a receipt with a thermal printer and a Raspberry Pi. The user interacts with the machine and a python script selects a random issue to print live.

We all know that the receipt is a written acknowledgment by a receiver of money or goods that a payment or a delivery has been made. So basically it is just a piece of cheap paper that keeps track of something that happened. Mostly, it is used for commercial purpose. Tons of paper are used everyday to give us information about transactions. Sometimes you can find some extras printed on it. Maybe some advertising, but that’s it. And what to do with this object? If it’s not a really important receipt, 99% of the times we throw it away. No wonder about it because the informations on it are crap, completely unuseful after it assolves its legal purpose. So in this project a different value and a longer life cycle is given to the receipt. A kind of anti-receipt is thus created that doesn’t passively keep track of a commercial transaction but it actively proposes a cultural input instead.
